Skye over at Skylark and Son discussed clothing she'd made for a few New Years' Eve celebrations over the years, and asked her readers what they had been wearing on the first night of the "new millenium" (1999/2000). Here is my response, because I want to remember it:
I was a wee sprog, just turned 13. I went to a party with us teens and younger in the basement while the grown-ups socialised upstairs. I recall a table full of junk food, piles of boy band CDs and games of limbo. I wore a silvery, open crocheted top with long sleeves over a textured crimson full-length dress. I had my hair half-up and half-down with two horrid little tendrils in front, as was the fashion at the time. I could see myself wearing something similar today, actually (minus the tendrils and the spaghetti straps).

SUMMER.
After FIVE WEEKS of fog, rain, and general gloom, we have finally (finally!) had two days in a row of beautiful, warm, sunny weather, and it has made me violently happy. So much so that...
- I smiled to the very edges of my face every time I saw a dog, a cute child, or even a little old lady.
- The only colour left in my favorite headphones was pink, and I detest pink, but it didn't even faze me, and I bought them anyway.
- Even though I saw gorgeous manicures and pedicures everywhere, while my own fingers are toes are naked, all I could think was, "I'd rather be out here in the sun than cooped up inside doing my nails!"
- At the peak of my happiness, I saw a cute little Asian girl sporting an "I Love Yoshi" t-shirt, and found myself so delighted by it that I nearly swallowed her in a hug while shrieking, "I love Yoshi too!", even though that is a lie (I prefer Birdo).
P.S. Please note that it took a great amount of restraint not to type this entirely in caps. So fervent is my happiness that it practically demands shouting.

Reading.
{source.}As a result, my GoodReads account has been updated a bit, and I'm almost up to 500 books read. I know I've read more than 500 books in my lifetime, but I have trouble remembering books I've read in the past few years. Strangely enough, I remember many of the books I read as a child - including when I stopped reading the Animorphs series regularly, and which ones I skipped altogether.
One feature of GoodReads that I really like is the ability to select not only what you're reading now and what you've read before, but what you'd like to read in the future (and seriously, there are enough books on that particular list of mine to last through many decades of gift-giving). It's the most frequently updated on my list, because I'm always looking for intriguing new reads.
Anyone got any more recommendations for my long, long to-read list?

touch of bohemian.
black tee: thrifted // cardigan: Joe Fresh // jeans: Gap // socks: gifted // flats: Joe Fresh, embellished by me // wooden necklace: the dollar store // turquoise bracelet, spoon ring, and watch: gifted
Lately, I've noticed a fondness for clothing that is long, loose, flowy, comfy, detailed. I'm loath to try and "define" my style - my favorite types of dresses are crisp shirtdresses and slouchy t-shirt dresses. I'm starting to wonder now, though, if I'm not just a touch boho. Or maybe I just want to be?

sentimental favorite.
ruffled dress: H&M // cardi: thrifted, Ann Taylor // navy tights: Joe Fresh // leather boots: Miz Mooz // blue scarf: gifted // gold and opal necklace: gifted // cubic zirconia studs: the dollar store!!! (seriously - it's my new favorite place to buy jewelry)
This dress is classic Meg: bows, bold colour, pattern, and ruffles. However, the shiny satin makes it feel a bit fancy for day-to-day wear, so I toned it down with a more casual scarf, cardi and boots. The dress also has some sentimental value: I wore it on the day I graduated from university.
After a very long, trying, and tiring week, it was the perfect thing to wear.

spur of the moment.
Ruffled short-sleeve cardi: Joe Fresh // Floral shirtdress: H&M // black tights: thrifted, Ralph Lauren // leather boots: Miz Mooz // white scarf, dyed by me // watch necklace: local store // silver bracelets: gifted, handmade in Arizona
Some days, blogging is really hard. I want to keep my private life private here to an extent, and today all I can think about are things I'm not "allowed" (rather, that I won't allow myself) to discuss on the blog. Things like money. And faith. Things that are scary, but that I'm still hopeful about.
And I guess that's all I can say, really.
